Mangkas Cops Initiate Garden to Pantry

Garbed in their silver lake and navy blues, members of the La Carlota City Police Station (LCCPS) headed by its Chief of Police, PLTCOL Jonel V. Guadalupe, set out for another of its usual Barangayanihan Community Pantry today, May 1, 2021 in front of the Hall of Justice along Gurrea Street, this city.

Today’s community pantry, however, is special as it afforded the Mangkasanons a glimpse of PNP’s lesser known persona, the nurturer.

Heeding the government call for a sustained production and accessible food supply, the LCCPS personnel started their urban garden at the beginning of the pandemic to serve as a food bank for the community. As gardeners, the city protectors saw their vegetables live, grow and thrive in containers, sacks, and idle spaces at the Police Station.

This Labor Day, the fruits of their hard work had been harvested and shared to the community.
The community pantry is expected to serve at least 30 indigent residents of the three barangays in the Poblacion. Aside from fresh produce, dry goods and clothing, the PNP Community Pantry also served hot meals.

The bi-weekly stationary pantry is also made possible through the generosity of various donors and partnership with force multiplier groups like the United Kabayan International Friendship Anti-Crime Organization (UKIP-ACO).

The LCCPS also provides regular community assistance through Barangayanihan on Wheels, a mobile community pantry destined to rural barangays and Amon Tabang sa Mangkasanon (ATM), an Adopt-a-Family program of the LCCPS.

For all these inspiring efforts to help the community, PLTCOL Guadalupe only has one request.
“Nakikiusap po ang inyong lingkod pati na ang aking mga kasamahan na sumunod po tayo sa ating mga pinapairal na alituntunin or guidelines na mahinto na ang pagkalat nitong virus. Tuloy lng po ang paggamit ng face mask at face shield at iwasan po natin ang mga social gathering. Kung maaari po ay stay at home na lang po muna kung hindi lang naman po importante ang gagawin sa labas.”
