La Carlota City kicked-off the Environmental Week celebration last June 22 at the Social Hall, 3/F Main City Hall.
With the theme “Time for Nature,” this year’s celebration focuses on the role of the environment in providing the essential infrastructure that supports life on Earth and human development.
Spearheaded by the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), the week-long event will showcase the following activities:
June 22 – Orientation on Environmental Laws
June 23 – Tree Planting at Brgy. RSB
June 24 – Tree Planting at Brgys. Ara-al and Yubo
June 25 – Simultaneous Office and Household Clean-up Drive and Distribution of Flyers
June 26 – Site Visit at Green Charcoal Making Venue in Bago City
Mayor Rex Jalando-on reminded that giving time for nature to grow and heal is something we must do, not for ourselves but for the future generations. He emphasized that the greatest threat to our environment is the belief that somebody else will be responsible to clean our environmental mess. We should be responsible for cleaning our environmental mess, not anybody else.
“The quality of the environment of the future generation will depend on what we do now,” he added.
Present during the orientation were Josela Therese J. Jomento SP Chairman, Committee on Environment, members of the Kanlaon Green Brigade (KGB) and Bantay Lasang , La Carlota SK Chairmen, and members of the Barangay Committee on Environment.
