Doc Rex Commits to Rebuild Bagumbayan Bridge
The Bagumbayan Bridge which connects La Carlota City (Brgy. Balabag) and Bago City (Brgy. Jorge L. Araneta) collapsed last August 1, 2021 at around 4:30PM.
Three light vehicles were passing through the bridge when it collapsed. There was no casualty in the incident. While there were injuries, nothing was recorded critical.
Around 250 households in Sitio Bagumbayan were affected when the Bagumbayan Bridge collapsed.
Technically, Sitio Bagumbayan is within the territory of Bago City but due to the proximity of the former to La Carlota City, residents prefer to study, work and shop as well as avail of the public services rendered by the city.
Residents recounted that the bridge was built during the term of former Congressman Charlie Cojuangco (1998-2007). The bridge was not made of new materials rather it was made out of recycled steel pulled out from Mining Bridge in Bago City. It was intended for tricycles and motorcycles only.
Doc Rex has already instructed the City Engineer’s Office to conduct an ocular inspection in the area and recommend the best course of action to expedite the construction of a bridge.
