The Department of Health-Region VI (Western Visayas), in coordination with the Negros Occidental Provincial Health Office and La Carlota City Health Office, has successfully launched the dengue prevention campaign “SaBAYANg 456” last July 15 at the Brgy. II Covered Court, Canson Subdivision, this city.

La Carlota City was one of the only two LGUS chosen to host the launching of SaBAYANg 456 in Western Visayas. The other LGU host was LGU-San Jose, Antique.
This region wide campaign is an initiative of the Regional Health Office to fight the alarming increase of dengue cases through the enhanced implementation of 4S strategy and the deployment of five teams to undertake essential dengue prevention and control activities.

The 4S strategy stands for “Search and destroy” mosquito-breeding sites, employ “Self-protection measures” “Seek early consultation”, and “Support fogging/spraying”. The five (5) significant activities are health education, vector control and surveillance, fever surveillance, logistics and data management.
Among the guests and speakers were Dr. May Ann Soliva-Sta. Lucia, Medical Officer IV, OIC-Chief Local Health Support Division; Dr. Gem Lauri Borja, Medical Officer III; Dr. Ernell D. Tumimbang, Provincial Health Officer II; Dr. Jessica Fama, Medical Specialist III; Ms. Ma. Lourdes Monegro, Entomologist III, Regional Dengue Program Coordinator; DMO V. Dr. Maila Bernabe; and DMO IV Mr. Jules Bonilla.
Also in attendance were Dr. Rommel Sabig, City Health Officer II, CHO staff, barangay nutrition scholars, midwives and health workers from 14 barangays of La Carlota City, and 4Ps beneficiaries.

City Councilor Akoy Sia represented Mayor Rex R. Jalando-on while Liga ng mga Barangay headed by ABC President Annabelle Bermudo, and representatives from PNP & BFP La Carlota were also present.

A signing of the Pledge of Commitment for Dengue Preparedness and Response was also held followed by the Turn-over of Logistics from the DOH R6. Among the received logistics of the city were IV fluids, paracetamol, insecticidal mosquito nets, and Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS).

City Health Officer Dr. Rommel Sabig also gave his thanksgiving message to the regional and provincial health offices and encouraged everyone’s cooperation to increase public awareness and curb the increasing dengue cases.

“Remember this is only a launching. Damo pa kita obrahon. Always remember 4S Strategy,” he concluded.

The launching program of SaBAYANg 456 ended with the breakout of team activities and the conduct of a press conference attended by Dr. Tumimbang, Dr. Fama, Dr. Sta. Lucia, Dr. Sabig and media representatives.
