La Carlota City opened the annual Christmas Festival of Lights and Music tonight, December 12 at the La Carlota Public Plaza.

As the sky cleared of rain clouds, an abundant hoard of diamonds and jewels, and thousands of Christmas lights illuminate the whole public plaza. Even the square’s dark corners were not spared from the shimmer of the Christmas decorations designed, made and installed by the LGU personnel.

The event started on a solemn note with the heavenly voices of the City Employees Chorale and the heart-warming prayer of Rev. Pastor Amsil Alubog.

Mayor Rex Jalando-on led the ceremonial opening of the festival and the switch on of all Christmas trees and decors at the plaza.

“Ang suga isa guid ka importante nga kinahanglanon sa aton adlaw-adlaw nga kinabuhi. Kung madulom ang aton palibot, masubo kag gahatag sg kahadlok sa madamu nga tawo. Ang paskua gapahanumdum sa aton, ilabi na guid sa amon nga mga city official that we must do our best to provide our constituents with a happy, productive and prosperous way of life according to the true meaning of Christmas,” Doc Rex said, a statement reminiscent of his “HANDUM” for La Carlota City.

Doc Rex and Vice Mayor Junjun Baga showed teamwork as they released the lanterns into the sky bearing their Christmas wishes. The bedazzled Mangkasanons, mostly children also released the white balloons into the night sky, adding to the ethereal vibes of the event.

As Doc Rex declared the festival officially open, all eyes were on the sky as fireworks competed with the beauty of the spruced up “La Presidencia” and trees around the plaza.
Sighted at the event were members of the City Council and Punong Barangays.
The opening was originally scheduled last December 9 but was postponed due to inclement weather. As one spectator quipped, “It was worth the wait.”
